At Sanguinetti & Co. Insurance Brokers/Mark Twain Insurance Services, we can provide Medicare Supplement plans to cover the remaining costs that Medicare does not. Our agents are certified and knowledgeable about the details of the many plans available, including the enrollment guidelines associated with each plan.
Medicare Supplemental Plan Details
Original Medicare will not cover 100% of your medical costs. The missing piece is up to you. Our agency has access to the lowest premium priced plans and we have established long-standing relationships with top carriers like Health Net, AARP United Healthcare, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and more. Medicare Supplements are standardized plans so there is never a need to overpay. Any doctor who accepts Original Medicare will accept the supplement plan regardless of the company you chose to buy your supplement plan from. That’s right! You can go to any doctor in the United States as long as the doctor accepts Original Medicare. Medicare Supplements help to cover up-to 100% of the remaining costs or less, depending on the plan selected. Plan F is the most popular Supplement plan because it is a 99% premium only plan. This plan has no annual deductible, no coinsurance, and no copayments to see doctors and specialists, or get blood work, etc., and a free gym membership is included with most plans. We take the time to meet with our customers in a one-to-one setting so that we can fully assess their needs and create a coverage plan that will eliminate gaps. There are no open enrollment periods for Medicare Supplements. In California, a customer can switch plans with a guaranteed acceptance if he or she switches from one company to another with the same plan during their birthday month. There is no prescription drug coverage included with any Medicare Supplement plan so purchasing a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan is ideal to avoid penalties associated with not having credible coverage. Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) are for those who are aging into Medicare and during the annual enrollment period October 15 through December 7. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If I have Original Medicare and add a Medicare Supplement, do I need to continue to pay my monthly premium for Original Medicare?
A:Yes. Original Medicare pays for 80% of member medical and hospital expenses. The remaining 20% is the member’s responsibility. Enrolling in a Medicare Supplement will help offset these costs.
Q: When Can I Make the Switch?
A: There is no open enrollment period for Medicare Supplements. A customer in California can switch plans with a guaranteed acceptance if he or she switches from one company to another with the same plan during their birthday month. Underwriting is required when buying up or switching companies outside of their birthday month.
Medicare Supplements vs. Medicare Advantage
What plan is right for you?
If a Medicare Supplement is not a good fit for you, maybe a Medicare Advantage Plan is. Medicare Advantage plans can be a less expensive way to keep your medical expenses down. Most Medicare Advantage Plans include prescription drug coverage and work like an HMO (Health Maintenance Plan). Once you chose the Medicare Advantage plan that fits your budget, you are required to choose a Primary Care Physician before enrollment. This Primary Care Physician is your initial source of treatment and is part of a network of doctors. If additional services are needed, he or she must refer you to another doctor in the network before the plan will pay for additional services. Medicare Advantage plans have lower monthly premiums but include more out of pocket expenses such as annual deductibles, coinsurance, and office visit copays. Many Medicare Advantage plans include some other benefits such as dental, vision, transportation, OTC (over-the-counter) spending allowances, and gym memberships. Our agency has relationships with companies in the surroundings county’s who offer Medicare Advantage Plans such as United Healthcare, Humana, and Alignment. All we need is your name, resident zip code, and a list of your prescriptions to provide a quote.
Do you have Original Medicare and Medi-Cal?
If you qualify for Original Medicare and Medi-Cal but still need additional assistance, there are $0 premium plans available in San Joaquin County, Stanislaus, and Contra Costa (and other surrounding counties), that offer more coverage for no additional costs. Original Medicare A & B and Medi-Cal alone offer free or low-cost doctor and hospital care but there are many gaps in coverage and services. We know that recourses in these situations are limited, but by enrolling in a $0 premium Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (DSNP), you will have access to more benefits. Some of the additional benefits available by enrolling in a DNSP in your area are dental, vision, and hearing aid benefits including a meal program, transportation services, care manager, and a quarterly over-the-counter allowance on many products in the following categories: cold and flu, antacid, diabetic management, first aid, personal care, pain relievers, skin care, smoking cessation, and vitamins.
A DSNP Plan offers you everything Original Medicare has, and coverage neither Medi-Cal nor Medicare has. If you are eligible for both Original Medicare and Medi-Cal, you may qualify for a DNSP Plan. Call our agency to see if you qualify for immediate enrollment.
